Over the last 12 months, I’ve put together a coaching programme to help fellow production staff and craft creatives deal with the unprecedented pressure film and television professionals are now facing, with things such as…

(and in no particular order)

  • Deadlines and Schedules
  • Work-Life Balance
  • Interdepartmental Communication
  • Conflict Resolution
  • Keeping Up with Technology
  • Problem-Solving
  • Career Progression
  • Personal Branding
  • Maintaining Creativity
  • Innovating
  • Leading Teams
  • Mentorship Skills
  • Handling Rejection and Feedback
  • Adapting to Industry Changes
  • Transitioning to retirement

It’s a programme created by me, Dr. Neil Hillman, an experienced industry professional, for fellow industry professionals, at all stages of their career.

If you’re:

  • An industry newcomer
  • A professional looking to move to the next level
  • A professional wanting to plan a phased retirement

It’s likely that you will already be affected by many, if not yet all, of these issues – particularly if you operate as a freelancer, a sole trader, or you’re the owner of a small, limited company. Until now, it’s been difficult to know where to turn, and how to be proactive.

Spaces for our 1-to-1 coaching are limited, but as professionals successfully complete the programme, places become available, which we offer to names on our waiting list.

Rest assured that there’s no hard sell, there’s no contract and there’s no obligation. There’s just a light appearing at the end of the tunnel.

One last thought. In my spare time, I volunteer as a Coast Guard boat crew member for Marine Rescue Queensland. We have a saying: “You have to take part in your own rescue…”

Trust me. I can help.

About The Sound Coach

Neil Hillman helps creatives, film directors and academics in the use of sound to better engage, entertain, educate and inform their audiences through consulting, writing, workshops and teaching. He is a BAFTA member and a past winner for sound design from the Royal Television Society and the New York and Los Angeles festivals, he has amassed over 1,000 IMDb credits. His Ph.D. from the University of York in 2019 researched the effect of moving picture sound design on human emotions, and his best-selling book, ‘Sound for Moving Pictures: The Four Sound Areas’ was published by Routledge in 2021. He is increasingly engaged as a feature film sound producer – the unusual movie equivalent of the more familiar record producer role.

His regular podcast – ‘The Apple and Biscuit Show’ – is widely distributed on all the usual podcast platforms.
